On June 22, 2020, President Trump suspended entry for H-1B, H-2B, J-1 and L-1 temporary workers. The ban is effective immediately and will extend through December 31, 2020.
It applies only to workers who are currently abroad and do not possess a valid visa as of June 23, 2020. There are exemptions for workers who are critical to:
- The defense;
- Law enforcement;
- The provision of COVID-related medical care or research; or
- Who contribute to the economic recovery of the U.S.
The proclamation also extends the ban on immigrant visas for most applicants who are outside of the U.S., originally enacted on April 22, 2020, until the end of the year.
