Appeals PPID can help you appeal an unfavorable judgment.

After a judge or jury decides against you in a civil case, you need the New York appellate law attorneys at PPID to manage your second — and perhaps last — shot at a favorable judgment. Our lawyers have decades of experience in appellate law. They know how to write cogent appellate briefs and make persuasive oral arguments in the appeals courts of New York.

About the process of filing an appeal.

A higher court can overrule the decision of a lower court, but to get to the higher court you must clear several hurdles, including:

Grounds — To file an appeal, you must demonstrate that there’s a good reason the lower court’s decision should be reversed. The most common ground for an appeal is that the trial judge made significant errors that harmed your case.

Time to file — In New York, you have only 30 days to file your appeal from the day you receive the lower court’s decision.

Notice — You are required to notify the court and the opposing party of your desire to appeal. The notice must state the court’s original decision and the reasons you believe the decision should be reversed.
