PPID Law Special Immigrant Juvenile Status SIJS

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)

PPID Attorneys provide comprehensive legal guidance for young people who are in the country but don’t have lawful status. Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) may help you remain in the U.S.

Our attorneys provide online and face-to-face legal consultations. Establishing a relationship and clearly understanding your needs is a critical first step toward success.

We speak Spanish, Chinese, Bulgarian, Russian, Hindi, Punjabi, and more. We go above and beyond to make sure that language is never a barrier between us and our clients.

PPID helps people who wish to obtain a Special Immigrant Juvenile Status Visa. Our attorneys can provide specific feedback for your situation.

Eligibility — Unmarried individuals under the age of 21 can seek the protection afforded by SIJS and potentially remain in the United States if living with their parents presents a danger. Our firm can go over the eligibility requirements and prepare Form I-360 if you qualify.

Dependency — It’s important to remember that SIJS is limited to situations where a U.S. juvenile court with appropriate jurisdiction has made a finding of dependency. Applications cannot be based on mere assertions or ruling from foreign authorities. We can seek relief if a juvenile court has held that the subject of the proceeding is eligible for long-term foster care and that it would not be in the undocumented youth’s best interests to be returned to his or her parents.

Adjustment in status — Should the required conditions be met, our firm advocates for clients pursuing an adjustment in their status by applying for lawful permanent residency under Form I-485. During this period, the subject of the proceeding is able to work legally in the United States if they are old enough. As long as the applicant files for SIJS protection before turning 21, he or she can obtain a green card even if they are older by the time the matter is resolved.

Immigration laws should not prevent a young person from living in a safe, supportive environment. PPID has decades of experience and works tirelessly to secure relief for abused and neglected clients.
